Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Machinery Safety Expert to ensure that industrial machinery and equipment comply with relevant safety standards, including the EU Machinery Regulation, ISO/EN standards, and internal company procedures.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, risk assessment, and CE conformity processes, and will play a key role in ensuring safe design, installation, and operation of machinery across our organization or client sites.
Key Responsibilities:
work in close collaboration with the Sales team to analyze customer inquiries, participate in technical discussions and meetings with clients, define scope of work, and prepare accurate technical-commercial offersperform compliance assessments of machinery against applicable EU Directives, Regulations ( Machinery Regulation (EU 2023/1230)) and standards, ISO 12100, EN 60204-1, EN ISO 13849-1, etc.) review and support in compiling the Technical File conduct on-site inspections/audits of machinery safety perform risk assessments, identifying hazards, estimating risks, and recommending mitigation measuresreview and evaluate machinery designs, control systems (including safety-related parts), guarding, emergency stop systems, interlocks, etc.
provide technical guidance to design, engineering, and maintenance teams on machinery safety best practicesprovide training in the area of Machinery Directive/Supply of Machinery Regulations to SGS colleagues to expand our customer base using the SGS network complete all chargeable work within the required budget and timeframes to ensure customer satisfaction and efficiency of the business maintain impartiality and independence throughout the certification process liaise with Notified Bodies, inspection authorities, and internal stakeholderswork closely with sales, certification, quality, and legal teams to ensure consistency and compliance in assessments Qualifications
Requirements
Education & Experience:
bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Safety Engineering, Mechatronics, or related fieldminimum 3–5 years of experience in machinery safety, ideally in an industrial, consulting, or certification environmentproven experience with EU CE Marking process and standards like EN ISO 12100, EN ISO 13849-1, EN 62061, EN 60204-1Skills & Competencies:
in-depth knowledge of EU Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC), its successor Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, and relevant standards (EN ISO 12100, EN ISO 13849-1-2, EN 60204-1, etc.)experience with functional safety (, performance level (PL), safety integrity level (SIL)) is highly desirableworking knowledge of EN 60204-1, ISO 12100 & ISO 13849-1 / -2strong analytical and risk assessment skillsexcellent communication and reporting skillsability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teamsuse of test and measuring equipment relative to inspections must be IT literate competent in the use of MS Office applications and experience of using large and complex databases willingness to learn and adapt to change – committed to continuous personal and professional development driving licensePreferred Qualifications:
familiarity with other related Directives/Regulations such as ATEX/EMC/Low Voltageknowledge in the certification process as a technical expert for type examinations or other conformity assessment proceduresexperience with CE marking and technical file verificationunderstanding of risk assessment and risk reduction principlesexperience working with machinery manufacturers, integrators, or within a safety consultancyfamiliarity with electrical safety, pneumatic/hydraulic systems, or automation controlsproficiency in using safety calculation tools (, SISTEMA)familiarity with the role and obligations of Notified BodiesPreferred Skills & Attributes:
