Urgent! Senior Network Observability Engineer Job Opening In Warsaw – Now Hiring Moderna

Senior Network Observability Engineer

Job description

The Role:

Joining Moderna offers the unique opportunity to be part of a pioneering team that's revolutionizing medicine through mRNA technology, with a diverse pipeline of development programs across various diseases.
As an employee, you'll be part of a continually growing organization, working alongside exceptional colleagues and strategic partners worldwide, contributing to global health initiatives.

Moderna's commitment to advancing the technological frontier of mRNA medicines ensures a challenging and rewarding career experience, with the potential to make a significant impact on patients' lives worldwide.
Moderna is solidifying its presence within our international business services hub in Warsaw, Poland, a city renowned for its rich scientific and technological heritage.

This hub provides critical functions, meeting the growing demand of Moderna’s global business operations.

We're inviting professionals from around the world to join our mission and contribute to the future of mRNA medicines.
We’re seeking a Senior Observability Engineer with a strong background in network monitoring and observability to design, build, and operate solutions across our global cloud and on-prem infrastructure.

In this role, you’ll shape how Moderna measures and improves network health and performance, enabling teams worldwide to detect issues faster, resolve incidents efficiently, and improve reliability for business operations.

This is a high-impact role with ownership across observability platforms, automation, and incident response processes.

Here’s What You’ll Do
Your Key Responsibilities Will Be:

•  Platform Ownership & Operations
o    Manage and optimize Kentik, Dynatrace, Foglight, Splunk, PagerDuty and related observability tools.
o    Engineer scalable, cost-efficient solutions (HA collectors, flow sampling, retention tiers, cardinality budgets).
o    Partner with vendors to influence roadmaps, manage licensing, and maximize value from our platforms.
•    Network Observability Engineering
o    Build advanced network monitoring capabilities: synthetic path tests, NetFlow/IPFIX, and device KPIs (latency, jitter, packet loss, utilization, CPU/memory, RF).
o    Leverage telemetry sources (SNMP, Syslog, streaming telemetry) to improve real-time visibility and proactive detection of issues.
o    Define and evolve best practices for network monitoring, alerting, and event correlation.
o    Continuously fine-tune thresholds and anomaly detection to reduce false positives and improve response times.
•    Incident Response & Collaboration
o    Oversee and optimize on-call processes, ensuring alerts are actionable, routed effectively, and resolved quickly.
o    Provide real-time telemetry during incidents and support root cause analysis backed by observability data.
o    Collaborate with infrastructure, network, security, and application teams to ensure full coverage of critical systems.
•    Automation & Integration
o    Develop automation with Python, Ansible, Terraform to streamline observability workflows and implement self-healing for recurring issues.
o    Integrate observability platforms with ServiceNow, JIRA, CMDB, and related ITSM systems to enhance incident management and change workflows.
•    Analytics & Reporting
o    Deliver dashboards and reporting that give both engineers and leadership actionable visibility into system health, reliability, and costs.
o    Track and report key metrics such as MTTA, MTTR, and cost per device and service.
•    Knowledge Sharing & Continuous Improvement
o    Create documentation, runbooks, and training to support adoption and consistency across Tier 1-3 teams.
o    Participate in post-incident reviews, applying lessons learned to refine monitoring strategies and prevent recurrence.

The key Moderna Mindsets you’ll need to succeed in the role:
•    We act with urgency.

Action today compounds the lives saved tomorrow.

You will proactively optimize observability tools and workflows to enhance system performance and reliability.
•    We obsess over learning.

We don’t have to be the smartest—we have to learn the fastest.

In this role, you will continuously refine monitoring strategies based on real-time data and incident response learnings.
Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)
•    7+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, operations, observability, or site reliability engineering (SRE), with strong expertise in network observability.
•    Proven background in network monitoring and observability, including telemetry (SNMP, Syslog, streaming telemetry), flow analysis (NetFlow/IPFIX), and device-level KPIs (latency, jitter, loss, utilization, CPU/memory, RF).
•    Hands-on experience with observability platforms such as Kentik, Foglight, Dynatrace, Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, and PagerDuty.
•    Strong knowledge of monitoring, alerting, and log aggregation best practices in large-scale enterprise environments.
•    Experience monitoring hybrid environments spanning on-prem, cloud, and applications.
•    Proficiency in automation and scripting (Python, Bash, Terraform).
•    Experience with cloud observability (AWS, Azure, or GCP monitoring tools).
•    Experience with incident response, on-call management, and post-incident reviews (RCA).
•    Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a high-paced, global environment.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications):
•    Experience working in GxP-regulated environments (or ability to quickly learn GxP compliance requirements).
•    Background in biotech, pharmaceutical, or healthcare operational environments.
•    Experience with SNMP managers, flow collectors, or streaming telemetry pipelines.
•    Exposure to wireless monitoring platforms (e.g., Cisco Catalyst Center).
•    Experience with firewalls, load balancers, or SD-WAN observability is a plus.
•    Understanding of ITSM processes (e.g., ServiceNow, JIRA) and how observability integrates into incident management.
•    Relevant certifications in networking, observability, or automation are a plus (e.g., Cisco CCNP/DevNet, AWS Advanced Networking, Splunk Core, Dynatrace Associate/Professional, Grafana, Prometheus, Terraform Associate).
•    A proactive, innovative mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and automation.
